2014 Notice of Race
The 33rd annual MS Regatta is the longest running, and largest, sailing fundraiser in Northern New England (history of the Regatta) and was recognized by the Gulf of Maine Ocean Racing Association as the 2012 Best Regatta. The MS Regatta is open to all sailboats over 20’ in length. There are racing divisions for monohull, multihull and one-design fleets. Non-spinnaker cruising sailboats will be grouped into multiple divisions and there is a division for classic sailing vessels.
Following the race is a Post-Race Party and Awards celebration at Handy Boats in Falmouth. This year, the party consists of a traditional Lobster Bake sponsored by Cozy Harbor, BBQ sponsored by Longhorn Steak House and Bianco Provisions, ice cream from Ben & Jerry’s, and beverages from Poland Spring Water and Pepsi. A cash bar with beer and wine from by Shipyard Brewing and Easterly Wines will be available.

How can my sailboat help cure MS?
The primary mission of MS Harborfest is to raise funds to help create a world free of multiple sclerosis for people who live with the unpredictable challenges of this disease. Maine is hit especially hard by MS, with a 70% higher prevalence rate than the rest of the country. Without the generosity of our skippers and crew, business, and individual sponsors, this mission would not be possible.
How do I register?
You can register online or you can call the Chapter office and staff will be happy to take your registration over the phone. The registration fee is $100 and includes: 2 tickets to MS Harborfest Benefit Auction, and 2 tickets to post-race party at Handy Boat.
Additional Post-Race Party tickets can be purchased for $15 each or earn additional tickets through your fundraising. For more details, check the MS Regatta fundraising incentives.
Skippers who register by August 1 will:
- have their boat name listed on the official MS Harborfest Regatta t-shirt.
Sail as a Team & Fundraise as a Team
Once you register your boat, encourage your crew to register as members of your team. Together you can harness the power of the internet and social media by using our online fundraising tools. Send emails out to everyone you know asking them to sponsor your sailboat in this unique race for a cure. Check out our website for a list of great prize incentives you and your crew could earn, plus the Merle Hallett Fundraising Trophy will be awarded at the Skippers Meeting to the skipper and crew who raises the most funds!
Sponsor a Sailboat
Sponsoring a sailboat for the MS Regatta is a visible and important way to join in the excitement of the MS Harborfest weekend. Your company gains valuable exposure while it supports cutting edge MS research, and services for people with MS. Sailboat sponsorship is $500 and includes:
- Listing in the MS Regatta race materials and the MS Harborfest web site.
- Display your banner on your sponsored sailboat during the Parade of Sail before the race.
- Invitation to MS Harborfest Skipper and Sponsor Reception & Benefit Auction Friday night at Portland Yacht Services.
- Sponsors may send representatives in their sponsored sailboat or the VIP spectator power boat.
- Acknowledgement in post-regatta advertisement and 2014 promotional materials.
Who can sponsor a sailboat?
You, your company or a company you know and have a relationship with. If you have a sponsor prospect but are uncomfortable asking them, we have volunteers that can help. Just call Sue at 781.2088 or email email@example.com.
Event Sponsorship Opportunities
The primary mission of MS Harborfest is to raise funds to help create a world free of multiple sclerosis for people who live with the unpredictable challenges of this disease. Maine is hit especially hard by MS, with a 70% higher prevalence rate than the rest of the country. Without the generosity of our business and individual sponsors, this mission would not be possible.
Many of our sponsors return to us year after year with their generous cash donations. Just as important as their cash contributions, many of our key sponsors’ employees additionally donate hundreds of hours of volunteer services helping to produce this weekend-long event.
MS Harborfest takes place in August on the Portland waterfront. We hope you will consider participating as a sponsor for the weekend celebration of the waterfront.
