A BIG MUDDY PARTY!
Every year when the MuckFest® MS caravan rolls into Philly we know it's going to be an epic mud-stravaganza full of big laughs and sloppy slapstick followed by an extra-celebratory post-run party. This year's event broke the Muck-o-Meter, which measures such things, so congratulations, you mucky overachievers.
Mother Nature got out her garden hose Saturday morning and made the course extra muddy. (Thanks, Mom!)
The rain, however, turned the Muckin' Corral into an ooey, gooey thing of beauty. There was more of that out on the course. If you made it through Big Balls without slipping or being knocked down or being covered in mud, then you were one of the few.
Philly Muckers presented a master class in team spirit and team fashion. Muck historians could not remember an event that had more teams dress-up in coordinated shirts and outfits. Last year's all-kilt team came back this year in full-on Star Wars regalia and proved once again that the muck is not only strong, it's unstoppable!
If you ran on Saturday, then you may have seen one of those unstoppable teams, Kath's Kids, a super team of over 70 members, captained by Courtney S. The team's namesake, Kath, Courtney's mom, is an MS fighter, and this was the first year Kath was able to participate with her team. After a few muddy hours on the course, the team crossed the finish line together, and rang the bell for a world free of MS, and made us all believe that anything is possible if we work together.
A sincere thanks to all the fundraising muckers and volunteers, including all the top fundraising individuals and teams. See below.
Sticking to that superlative theme, Philly had the largest volunteer turnout, and this year's super-crew helped create an awesome event for every mucker and their guests. Volunteers, we can't thank you enough.
And if you didn't see this video, then definitely check it out. It features Jess and John, wife and husband and co-captains of team Find a Muckin' Cure, talking about what MuckFest MS means for people living with MS: http://philadelphia.cbslocal.com/2017/06/02/muckfest-2017/.
A final thanks to The Glen Mills Schools for being a great event partner and for not giving us a detention for being too mucky in your schoolyard.
Thank you for coming out and making MuckFest MS Philadelphia so memorable. We would like to thank all the runners, volunteers, spectators and staff who participated and supported each other this weekend. It is that spirit of support that inspires us to work hard every day of the year to support people living with multiple sclerosis.
There is still time to support the mission behind the “muck.” We've made incredible progress so far and we want to keep that momentum going after the event. Make a donation online.
